1920: China joined the League of Nations


1935: 1st automatic parking meter in the United States was installed

1942: 13,152 Jews were arrested by French Police in Paris

1951: King Leopold III of Belgium abdicated the throne

1965: The Mount Blanc Road tunnel opened

1969: The spacecraft, Apollo 11, carrying the 1st men to land on the Moon was launched

1970: Iraq’s Constitution became effective

1979: President al-Bakr of Iraq was succeeded by Saddam Hussein

1983: Britain's worst helicopter accident left 20 people dead

1990: The declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine was adopted

1990: 400 people were killed in a 7.7 earthquake in Philippines

2007: 300 gallons of radioactive water was released after an earthquake in Japan damaged a nuclear power plant  

2012:  Truvada, the first drug shown to reduce the risk of HIV infection was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
