1909: The 1st military plane was delivered to the army by the Wright Brothers

1932: The 10th modern Olympic Games opened in Los Angeles

1956: The United States motto, “In God We Trust” was authorized

1971: 162 people were killed after a Japanese Boeing 727 collided with an F-86 fighter

1975: In Nigeria, General Yakubu Gowon was ousted in a palace coup on

1976: Giulio Andreotti was sworn in as the Premier of Italy

1981: The Belgian Senate accepted laws against racism

1990: Over 200 people were killed after soldiers opened fire on worshippers in a Monrovian church

1997: Double suicide bombing in Jerusalem left 14 dead

2014: The United States Congress voted to sue the Obama administration
