NIGERIA'S VERY OWN MOHAMMED SANUSI BARKINDO BECOMES THE NEW SECRETARY-GENERAL OF OPEC




Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, the former Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has been appointed as the Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).The Announcement was made by the committee at a meeting in Vienna, Austria on Thursday, 2nd of June, 2016.
              Mohammed Barkindo will succeed the Libyan, Abdalla El- Badri whose tenure is expected to come to an end this July. Barkindo Sanusi once functioned as the acting Secretary-General of OPEC in 2006 and as the Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation between 2009 and 2010.

             It should be noted that Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo will be the 4th OPEC Secretary-General from Nigeria after M.O. Feyide, Rilwanu Lukman and Edmund Daukoru. He is expected to assume office when Abdalla El- Badri’s tenure lapses this July and serve for the next 3 years.
