8 WEIRD BUT AMAZING FOOTBALL RULES YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW

1) A Coach Can Play for His Team If He Wants to: Many might not know this but it is possible to have a ‘Player-Coach’ (also Playing Coach, Captain-Coach or Player-Manager). A ‘Player- Coach’ may be a head coach or an assistant coach and he is permitted to make changes to the squad and also play on the team. A typical example is with Gianluca Vialli who used to play for Juventus and later coached Chelsea; he was still capable of playing so he usually substituted himself whenever the need arose for him to step in. So don’t be surprised when one day a coach decides to play for his team.

2) Referees Can Be Substituted: For most of our lives that we have watched football, it is not common to see a referee being substituted but in the FIFA soccer rules, this is accepted. If a referee is unable to continue with the match, he can be substituted with an assistant referee to take over the match.
