COURT OF APPEAL IN LAGOS LIFTS BAN ON WEARING OF HIJAB IN LAGOS SCHOOLS

The Lagos Court of Appeal lifted the ban placed by a Lagos High Court on the use of hijabs by female students in public primary and secondary schools in the State.
The decision to lift the ban was made by a panel of judges headed by Justice A. B. Gumel.  Justice Gumel held that the use of Hijab is an Islamic Injunction and an act of worship hence; banning the usage would be an infringement of the rights of the complainants. He further stated that the Lower Court made a mistake by stating that the ban was a Policy of the Lagos State Government.
