1879: The 1st railroad in Hawaii was opened

1912: The International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) was formed in Stockholm, Sweden

1919: The Finish Constitution was adopted

1944: 322 people were killed after 2 ammunition ships exploded at Port Chicago, California

1962: The United States Senate rejected Medicare for Old people

1976: The 21st modern Olympic Games opened in Montreal, Canada

1980: General Garcia Meza became President after the Bolivian Military coup

1987: Iran and France broke diplomatic relations

1995:  Bill Gates was declared the richest man in world by Forbes magazine

2013: Citizens of the United Arab Emirates were promised one gram of gold for every kilogram of weight lost in the city’s bid to curb obesity

2014:  Microsoft announced its decision to lay off 14% of its workforce which was proportional to about 18,000 employees

2014: 298 people were killed after Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 was hit by a missile while flying over eastern Ukraine
