1871: British Columbia became the 6th Canadian province

1878: 1st telephone was introduced in Hawaii

1938: Finland was awarded the 1940 Olympic Games after Japan withdrew

1944:  The United States invaded Japanese-occupied Guam during WW II

1949: Vasil Kolarov was elected as the premier of Bulgaria

1967: Race riots occurred in Memphis, Tennessee

1974: Turkey invaded Cyprus

1998: Abubakar promised to relinquish power on the 29th of May, 1999

1991: Mike Tyson was accused of raping a Miss Black America contestant

2005: Canada became the 4th country to permit same-sex marriage
