1847: Liberia declared its independence from the American Colonization Society

1918: Race riot in Philadelphia left 4 dead

1941: The United States placed an embargo on oil export to Japan

1944: Japanese attacked United States lines in Guam

1947: The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was established by the National Security Act

1951:  The Netherlands ended the war with Germany

1963: Over 1,000 people were killed following an earthquake in Skopje, Yugoslavia

1964: 94 people were killed after a Train from Povoa de Varzin, Portugal derailed near Oporto

1993: Boeing 737-500 crashed in South Korea killing 66 people

1994: Cambodia's train attack left 13 dead

2010: Over 92,000 classified documents detailing incidents related to the war in Afghanistan were released by Wikileaks

2011: Vietnam re-elected its Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung

2012: Tropical Storm left 16,000 people homeless in South Korea
