1877: The 1st Wimbledon tennis championship took place

1893: The 1st successful open heart surgery without anaesthesia was performed by Dr. Daniel Hale

1916: 101 were killed and 171 were injured in worst U.S. train wreck

1944: 168 people were killed after the world's largest circus tent caught fire at Ringling Brother's - Barnum and Bailey 2nd performance.

1957: The discovery of the element Nobelium was announced

1963: The Federation of Malaysia was formed

1982: 153 people were killed after the Pan Am Boeing 727 crashed in Louisiana

1991: South Africa became permitted again to begin to participate in the Olympic Games

1997: Mike Tyson was banned from boxing for biting Holyfield's ear

2006: Italy won the World Cup after defeating France
