TAX FRAUD SCANDAL: LIONEL MESSI FOUND GUILTY AND SENTENCED TO 21 MONTHS IN PRISON

A Court in Barcelona has found the Soccer Legend, Lionel Messi alongside his father, Jorge Horatio Messi guilty of three counts of tax fraud and has sentenced them to 21 months in prison respectively (almost 2 years).

According to statements by the court, the sentence can be appealed for through the Spanish Supreme Court and according to the Spanish law, a prison sentence under 2 years can be served under probation. Hence, the possibility of Messi and his father, Jorge going to jail is very slim. Messi and his father were also ordered by the court to pay a total combined fine of 3.2m Euros for their crimes; 1.7m Euros for Messi and 1.5m Euros for his father.

When Messi was asked about his role in the scandal, Messi stated, “I knew nothing about the money. I just concentrated on playing football. I trusted my father”.

I hope Messi makes it out of this in one piece.
