1886: Colombia adopted its constitution

1914: Germany declared war on Belgium while Britain declared war on Germany

1930: Child labour laws were established in Belgium

1962: Nelson Mandela was captured by South African Police

1965: Cook Islands entered into free association with New Zealand

1971: The United States launched its 1st satellite into lunar orbit from manned spacecraft

1980: 272 people were killed by the Hurricane Aline in Texas and Caribbean

1984: Republic of Upper Volta became known a Burkina Faso
