According to reports by a local
official on Monday, A 14 year old pregnant bride, Zahra who was a victim of an
arranged and violent marriage died due to severe burns. However, the question
as to whether she committed suicide by setting herself on fire or she was killed
by abusive in-laws still remains unanswered. She died on Saturday at Isteqlal
Hospital in Kabul after sustaining third degree burns.
The Police Chief of the Province,
General Mustafa Andarabi stated that Zahra’s husband was also involved in the
incident but he fled the house after it occurred. He further stated that the
victim’s father-in-law and mother-in-law are currently being held in custody.
